CECIL McBEE is a Japanese clothing brand founded in 1984.

The brand sells sleek, mature clothing for young women, and is often popular with styles such as Onee gyaru.

History[]

CECIL McBEE was founded in 1984, with its flagship store in Shibuya 109 opening in 1987; the brand became one of the biggest and most successful stores in 109. In 2017, CECIL McBEE rebranded, and their iconic logo was redesigned in 2019. The logo was changed from a serif font to a sans serif style, allowing for more accessibility and visibility.[1]

In July 2020, all store branches were closed due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. In November 2021, the flagship store in Shibuya closed down.

In Popular Culture[]

In the manga revival of GALS!, the character Mami Honda becomes the store manager of CECIL McBEE in Shibuya 109 on June 29th in the story. On the same day, June 29, 2021, GALS! and CECIL McBEE collaborated and released GALS! themed clothing, and the characters modelled garments from the brand too. [2]
