Gyaru (ギャル) is a Japanese subculture which began in the 1990s and is still around to this day. The word Gyaru (A transliteration of the word 'Gal') was first used in the 1970s when a brand named Wrangler released women's jeans titled 'Gals'. However, the subculture itself was said to have been started in the 1990s by singer Namie Amuro, and the first known substyle was Amuro.
Gyaruo (ギャル男) is the male/masculine counterpart of Gyaru.

Music is not an important factor of being a gyaru, and you can listen to anything. To be a gyaru you must do the makeup, and go out in it. (This doesn't have to be everyday but at least a reasonable amount). Choosing a substyle is optional, and not required to be a gyaru.
This Wiki is here to help with various things regarding gyaru, such as it's history or information on a gyarusa member.
